Emelia M. Orellana,

Emelia M. Orellana,

An interdisciplinary artist and higher education professional weaving social justice and (re)clamation into everything she creates. From her connections to Guatemala to Providence, Rhode Island - their roots play a large role in the way they approach their practice.

Her artistic practice currently lies with self-portraiture as a way to process, empower and understand her place within split worlds and an ever-changing political environment. This intimate exploration marked by divided faces, sacred symbolism and emotional archaeology has become the foundation for a broader multidisciplinary practice.

In addition to her creative work, Emelia has over 5+ year in higher education focusing on multicultural education through art and design and student success/advocacy. During her professional career she also gained experience in the nonprofit sector building specialized educational curriculum, working with at-risk youth, and grant writing.
